The Travel Tech Gear I Always Pack

USB Hub Charger that solves almost every outlet problem

I’m constantly battling charging issues no matter where I stay. There are never enough outlets, and the ones that do exist always seem to be in the most inconvenient spots. This is an upgraded version of the charger for several years, and it’s been perfect for me. It adds a little weight, but the long cord and ability to power multiple devices from one hub have saved me more times than I can count. It’s earned its place in my bag. Its also great on cruises since it doesn’t have a surge protector.

A tiny charger that saves me in airports

Ever been in an airport with a dying phone or a tablet you forgot to charge? This little charger is the perfect backup to toss in a daypack or purse. It is lightweight enough that I carry one daily, and it comes in a stronger version if you want two USB‑C ports. It is my favorite just‑in‑case charger.

A Power Bank That I Never Travel Without

I seem to go through a phone charge in no time at all using it as part time phone, tv, radio, and computer. Even when I’m home, I never go far without a portable charger. This one is my favorite for the extendable cord, smaller size, and larger capacity. Just make sure to follow any TSA and airline guidelines when you’re flying during your travels!

Bright USB cables that never disappear on trips

I swear my charging cables vanish every time I travel, especially when I’m with other people. Switching to these bright blue cords has solved the problem almost completely. They stand out in hotel rooms and make it obvious which ones are mine. They come in lots of colors, but I stick with blue.

A travel TV stick that knows all my shows

Sometimes I just want to relax and watch TV on a trip without dealing with unfamiliar apps or hotel menus. When I think I’ll want that comfort, I pack a Fire Stick. It already has all my streaming apps loaded, and I can connect to Wi-Fi and watch. It doesn’t work everywhere, but it works often enough to be worth bringing.

Reliable SD Card for Travel Photography

This is my go-to SD card for my DSLR camera. It’s fast enough to keep up with the pace of my photography and has been a reliable companion on countless trips. When I’m capturing landscapes, wildlife, or travel memories, I want a card I can trust.

A simple gadget that eases muscle tension

Long road trips or flights can leave my back and shoulders feeling rough. I like to travel with this mini percussion massager to give my muscles a break at the end of the day. Since I started bringing it, I’ve felt so much better on long travel stretches.

A sleep headband that saves me from snorers

If you have ever shared a room with a snorer, you know the struggle. I toss this headband into my carry on when I know I’ll be around loud sleepers. It helps me get a peaceful night of rest without worrying about the noise in the room.

Earbuds that handle calls and flights really well

I’ve tried so many earphones and earbuds over the years, from clearance finds to over‑the‑ear styles. These are the ones I’m using now. The call quality has been excellent, and the noise cancellation has been perfect for long flights.

A Small Fan That Helps Me Sleep Better Away From Home

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more particular about recreating a stable sleep environment wherever I go. I’ve always liked sleeping with a fan for airflow and white noise. This small fan fits perfectly on a bedside table, plugs in easily, and has three speeds so I can adjust the airflow to what I want.

A phone grip that keeps my phone secure

Everyone has their own way of holding on to their phone from a mountain top or ship deck. This is mine. I like the strong grip these handles give, and I’ve used them for years. Whenever I need a replacement, I always go back to this brand.

Rechargeable Travel Lamp for Reading at Night

I’ve started packing this rechargeable lamp for trips where bedside lighting may be limited. It offers three brightness levels, folds down for easy packing, and provides extra light for reading or organizing without turning on a bright overhead light.

Travel Note: This lamp contains a rechargeable battery, so be sure to follow current airline guidelines when flying.

Headlamp for Sunrise Hikes & Stargazing

I own an older version of this Petzl headlamp, and it has joined me on trips from Bryce Canyon to Arches to catch a perfect sunrise, as well as nighttime adventures in Joshua Tree and Crater Lake. I especially like the red light mode for stargazing because it helps preserve night vision. It’s comfortable to wear and keeps my hands free while hiking or handling gear.
